Please read Exodus, chapters 21, 22 and 23.
The God of Israel is still speaking with Moses.
Exodus 21:1 “These are the laws you are to set before them” (before the Israelites).
And then we have three chapters showing the laws of God. Why was that necessary? It was to show a sinful nation the total impossibility to keep those laws. Manifesting the grave sinfulness, the utter depravity of human hearts and also to reveal the great riches of grace in the heart of God, towards sinful people.
In the middle of chapter 23 we find God’s instructions regarding three annual feasts the Israelites were to celebrate. Perhaps, if that will be in the Lord’s will, we will glimpse at that in the next book, Leviticus.
Towards the end of chapter 23 we find an expression of God’s wonderful, loving grace. God’s promises are always irrevocable.
Exodus 23:20,21 “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you, along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since My Name is in him” ‘I am sending an angel ahead of you along the way – My Name is in him.’
Gracious, gracious God! We find Him saying:’ I WILL, I WILL, I WILL’ (verses 22,25,26,27,28,29,30,31).
The greatness and the grace of that God go beyond all human comprehension. He is the King of kings and He governs the whole universe. He has the whole world in His hand and we know He loves a sparrow, how much more does He love His people.
